When we have a grudge against someone, John said we are walking in darkness. We have a heavy heart, we are sad, and we carry guilt – yes guilt. We can’t be totally happy. The same goes if we have prejudice against someone who is different than we are. We need to clean up our hearts before Christmas so we can love Him with a pure heart.
Today let’s consider the New Commandment Jesus gave us: to love one another. Sometimes it’s hard to love some people. But a fact that’s good to remember is that no one can make you angry; only you can let yourself be angry. Have you ever asked Jesus to love someone through you? It works if you are persistent. And it gives you a peace in your heart that will surprise you.
Prayer: Lord we love you, and we want to love your people as you love them, even though some don’t seem worth loving. We come to you in humility today, to ask your help in unburdening us of the unhappiness we have because we have let ourselves be angry with someone else. If we can’t let the anger go right now, will you please just love them through us. Thank you, Jesus
